Funeral services for Govie Lee Sharum were held Friday, May 26, 1995 in Rose Chapel with David Clewell officiating.
Lee, the son of Lydia and Daniel B. Sharum, was born April 4, 1923 in Strong City, OK and passed away May 24, 1995 at his home in Sayre at the age of 72 years, 1 month and 19 days.
Lee grew up in the Strong City-Cheyenne area. He moved with his family to Oregon where they lived for a short time before Lee joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. He later enlisted in the U.S. Navy and he served during World War II in the South Pacific. After his discharge he entered the Merchant Marine. After finishing his service, he moved to Sayre.
On October 10, 1950 he married Jackie Embry in Amarillo, Texas and they lived in Sayre where he has made his home since.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Dorothy, one sister, Viola and four brothers.
He is survived by three daughters, Leann Welk and Debbie Sharum both of Sayre, OK and Kay Roper, Cedar Lake, OK; two sons, Zane Sharum and Ray Sharum, both of Sayre; two sisters, Louise Gunter of Foss, OK and Vreta Sharum of Denver, CO; one brother, Danny Sharum of Elk City, OK; five grandchildren, Elbert Spears III, Robby Welk, Joshua Welk, Gage Sharum; and Justin Roper, two stepsisters, Sue Fielder of Lone Grove, OK and Marie Mayes of Sayre, OK.
Interment was in the Sayre Doxey Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
