She married John Henry Fitzgerald in 1910. They had nine children: James in 1911, Mary in 1913, Harry about 1917, Thomas in 1918, Helen in 1920, Lawrence about 1923, E. Martin about 1925, and Rita in 1928. There was a ninth child who didn't survive.
She lived in Milford, Hunterdon Co., New Jersey as an adult.
Emma's early death was a tragedy for her young family.

Mrs. Emma Fitzgerald, wife of John Fitzgerald, of Milford, N.J., died at 6:26 this morning at the Easton Hospital, aged 41 years. She was admitted to the hospital at 4:45 this morning for surgical treatment. Mrs. Fitzgerald is survived by her husband, who is an employee of the Riegel Paper Corporation at Milford, and by seven children.
