Edward C. "Ed" Gast, age 84, a resident of Pierz, and a former resident of Hillman, died November 25, 1991 at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Funeral servies were held November 30 at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Hillman with Rev. Nathan Packard officiating. Burial was in the St. Joseph's Cemetery in Pierz.
Edward Charles Gast was born October 27, 1908, in St. Bonifacius, MN the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Bauer) Gast. He came to the Hillman area with his parents at the age of seven, and his parents farmed there. On June 26, 1934, he was united in marriage to Lucille Boser in Little Falls. Following their marriage, they lived in the Hillman area, where they owned and operated a farm for most of their working life. In 1972, upon retiring from active farming, Edward and his wife relocated to the city of Pierz, where he had since resided.
On August 25, 1985, Edward's wife Lucille, passed away. He was a member of St. Rita's Catholic Church in Hillman. He also served as treasurer for the Mount Morris Township Board for many years, and also was a former member of the Hillman School Board.
Survivors include threee sons, Roger and wife, Margaret Gast and Gene and wife Donna Gast, all of Arlington, South Dakota; and Norman and wife Sheila Gast of Brooklyn Center; two daughters, Mrs. Vernon (Jeanette) Stellmach of Brooklyn Park and Patricia Gast of Little Falls; one brother, Joseph Gast of Pierz; 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
