***********************
Dad was involved in a 50mph motor vehicle accident on March 12, 2005. He suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns and required 5 orthopaedic surgeries to fix shattered bones. He was conscious and talking to EMTs the entire time they fought to remove him from his burning car. It took 45 minutes and hydraulic equiptment to free him. He was airlifted to York Hospital (the accident occured in Pennsylvania) and from there he was airlifted to Johns Hopkins Bayview to the burn center. He was patient in the burn unit for 6 weeks and was transferred to a nursing home in Randallstown where he subsequently fell out of the bed twice because he was not walking yet and his balance was poor. The second fall resulted in a massive sub-dural hematoma which required brain surgery. He was moved to Sinai Hospital and operated on and then transferred to Kernan Hospital for rehab. Staph infections from prior surgeries created complications and he was finally moved to Lorien Nursing Center in Taneytown in the care of Carroll Hospice.
