George W. Rhodes, slipped away into the silent land on February 1, 1929, aged 65 years, three months and 15 days. He was born in Rush County, Indiana, October 22, 1863, and was the son of John and Sarah Ellen Rhodes. He was the second child of a family of seven children, four sons and three daughters. One sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Canady, and the father and mother have preceded him in death.

In 1888 he was married to Miss Laura E. Wilson, with whom he made life's pilgrimage for more than 40 years. Nine children came to bless their home. Three of them passed away in infancy. Those still living and present today are two sons, Cecil and Russell Rhodes, of Carthage, and four daughters, Mrs. Cora Lindamood of Hagerstown; Mrs. Bessie Meredith of near Kennard; Mrs. Oma Webb, of Carthage, and Mrs. Leona Bonigar of Shirley. Besides the wife and children, he leaves 15 grandchildren and one great-grandson. He also leaves two brothers, Jesse, of near Anderson, and William, of Kennard; and three sisters, Mrs. Alice Mattix, Mrs. Anna Crandall and Mrs. Rosa Jackson, and many other relatives and friends.

He was a member of the Red Men's Lodge of Knightstown, and they are present today in a body to do him honor.
Mr. Rhodes was very industrious, honest and upright in his dealings with his fellow men. A faithful husband, kind father, and a good neighbor. While he had been in failing health for about four years, his death came as a great surprise to his relatives and friends.
