Alexander married Eva Robinson and lived in Louisville, Georgia until the early 1900s moving to Jacksonville and then Seville near Daytona. Alex operated a naval store in Conner under the business name A.S. Nicholas Company. In 1938 he was admitted to St. Vincents Medical Center Riverside in Jacksonville due to his declining health from cancer. His son Leslie lived near the hospital in Riverside and spent time with him in his final days. On November 15, 1938 Alex dies due to complications from cancer.
His obituary misspells Nicholas as Nichols, a mistake too common for anyone who's last name is Nicholas and gives the incorrect death date as November 15.
Alex was survived by his wife Eva Nicholas; son Leslie Robinson Nicholas; grandson Leslie Robinson Nicholas, Jr; brothers Stephen H. Nicholas and Daniel W. Nicholas; sisters Georgia Bennett and Jane Eason.
His grandson Alexander Stephen Nicholas is named after him.
Alex was 76 years old.
