Albert Francis Smith

Albert F. Smith was born in Evans, New York, January 26, 1849, and passed away March 30, 1926, at his home in Holton, Kansas, age 77 years, 2 months and 4 days.

He was married to Marcia Isilda Sanford, September 13, 1871, at Hazel Green, Wisconsin. To this union were born eight children, as follows: Charles, Hattie, and Herbert, who died in childhood; and Francis, Orel, Roy, Ralph and Iva, now Mrs. Joseph Adams, who survive him, and who are present today, except one. He is also survived by his widow, and thrteen grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Smith came to Jackson county, Kansas, twenty-six years ago, and have lived in Holton and vicinity since that time.

He has been identified with the Methodist church all his life, being baptized at its altars at the early age of four years. For three years, he has been in failing health, but up till three days ago was up and around his home. The end came suddenly Tuesday morning at 10:30 o'clock.

Mr. Smith was of a quiet disposition, fond of his own home, and spent most of his there. Having finished his day of labor, he passes on in quiet. We bow our heads in sorrow, and say with Tennyson: "God's finger touched him and he slept."

His funeral was held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Joseph Adams, 211 Iowa St., Holton, Kan., by the writer, pastor of the Methodist church, Holton, and his body laid to rest in Holton cemetery. The music was rendered by C.O. Randel, and the pallbearers were George Bronson, Max Drechsler, C.F. Hurrel, Wm. Bryan, Wm. Ferguson and Alex Abel.
