Magdeline Miller was born Aug. 27, 1792, near Boonsboro, Washington County, Maryland, the third of ten children of John and Barbara (Weaver) Miller. On Dec. 22, 1811, at the age of 19, she married Michael Tobey, the son of Revolutionary War veteran Sgt. Michael Tobey and his wife Gertrude Charity Baker.
Michael and Magdeline and their family of six sons and four daugthers moved to Montgomery County, Ohio, in 1836.
Magdeline died in Dayton, Ohio, in 1857, at the age of 65, and was buried in Greencastle Cemetery there. Michael subsequently moved to Mattoon, Illinois, where he died in 1872 at the age of 83. He, too, is buried in Old Greencastle Cemetery.
