SON OF REVOLUTIONARY WAR VETERAN SGT. MICHAEL TOBY

A BIOGRAPHY OF MICHAEL TOBEY (1789-1872), by Laurence Overmire (4G Grandson), Aug. 2008:

Michael was born May 3, 1789, near Boonsboro, Washington County, Maryland, the only known son of Revolutionary War veteran Sgt. Michael Tobey and his wife Gertrude Charity Baker. He married Magdeline Miller, the daughter of John and Barbara (Weaver) Miller, on Dec. 22, 1811.

Michael was a farmer and carpenter. He and his family of six sons and four daugthers moved to Montgomery County, Ohio, in 1836. Apparently, his mother Gertrude accompanied them. She died about a year later and was buried in Miamisburg.

Michael's wife Magdeline died in Dayton, Ohio, in 1857 and was buried in Old Greencastle Cemetery there. Michael subsequently moved to Mattoon, Illinois, where he died in 1872 at the age of 83, probably at the home of his son Michael Tobias, with whom he was living in 1870.

FIND A GRAVE REPORTED:
A volunteer searched for the stated plot and could not find the grave. The problem with this cemetery is it is probably the oldest in Dayton. The flood of 1913 buried or destroyed alot of the monuments there.
