Family Group of James Hacking (1757 - 1836) and Ann Pearson Hacking (1781 - ????):
Child #1 James Hacking (1800 - 1800)
Child #2 William Hacking (1801 - abt 1848)
wife - Ann Pearson Hacking (abt 1811 - 1892)
Child #3 James Hacking (1802 - 1839)
wife - Jane Pearson Hacking Fisher (1808 -1878)
There is quite a bit of confusion about the relationships in this family because of strong similarities in names, and also because of an error in the Bishops Transcripts. as noted in this section of a report in the John Sampson Hacking Family Bulletin #2 1956:
In the report received from the Genealogist in London the following, among other entries, was listed:
No. 1.
Baptised:
9 Dec 1800
James son of James and Ann Hackin
19 Dec 1801
William son of James and Ann Hackin
4 Dec 1802
James son of James and Ann Hackin
Burials:
12 Dec 1800 James Hackin of Clawthorpe, infant
On the microfilm record of the Bishops Transcripts we get the following entries:
Baptised:
9 Dec 1800
James son of James and Ann Hackin
19 Dec 1801
James son of James and. Ann Hackin
4 Dec 1802
James son of James and Ann Hackin
Burials:
12 Dec 1800 James Hackin of Clawthorpe, infant
You will notice that in the listing given by the Genealogist when he made his search of the original registers at Burton in Kendal the name of William son of James and Ann Hackin, baptized or christened the 19 Dec 1801, was entered. In the listings from the Bishops Transcripts (which is a copy of the original parish register) the name is given as James son of James and Ann Hackin baptized 19 Dec. 1801. Since both entries were copied from the original parish register at Burton in Kendal, I wrote to the parish minister at Burton and asked for a certified copy of the baptismal entry of the son of James and Ann Hacking which occurred on 19 December 1801, and explained the problem of the conflict in the names of William and James. The Certified Certificate of Baptism gave the following information:
BAPTISM CERTIFICATE

I certify that the foregoing is a true Copy of the entry of the Baptism of WILLIAM HACKIN in the Register of Baptisms for the said Parish of Burton in Kendal. Dated this 21st day of January 1955. Signed: /s/ J. B. Phillips, Vicar
