Docia Catherine Wellborn was the daughter of Jane M. Bond and her first husband, Aaron Wellborn. Jane and Aaron were married in 1832, but unfortunately he died just ten years later. They had five children, Francis Marion, Martha E., Docia Catherine, Chapley, and Elijah J. Later Jane (Bond) Wellborn married Gibson Blalock as her second husband.

Docia Catherine Wellborn married Burrell B. Braswell in 1856, and they remained in DeKalb County most their lives. The couple had the following ten children: Augustus A., Wesley Wellborn, Bartow Belton, Lafayette L., Ida V., Albert Alonzo, Mamie J., Clara E., Alice Estelle, and Mather Marvin Braswell.

An obituary for Docia appeared in the August 17, 1917 edition of the Atlanta Constitution:

"Mrs. Catherine Braswell, 80 years old, widow of the late D. D. [sic] Braswell, of Lithonia, died yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. M. Rogers, at Lithonia. She is survived by four sons, A. A. of Atlanta, B. B. of Gainesville, L. L. of Florence, S. C., and M. M. Braswell of Austin, Texas, and three daughters, Mrs. W. P. Evans, of Atlanta, Mrs. W. M. Rogers and Mrs. J. M. Abram, of Lithonia."
