Thomas T. McLin, son of James G. and Sarah (Mires) McLin, grew up in Ohio. On Oct. 14, 1852 he was married to Nancy Jane Taylor in Hocking County. The couple lived near Gore and Logan, where their first three children were born.

During the War Between the States, Mr. McLin served with Co. D, 31st Ohio Inf. Rgt. He was wounded at the Battle of Atlanta and spent time in a military hospital, then was sent home on leave to recuperate. He returned to his unit and was mustered out on May 12, 1865. Another child joined the family in 1865.

After a few years, the family migrated westward and settled on a farm in Grant Township, near the village of Soldier, in Jackson County, KS, and it was there that five more children were born.

Mr. McLin passed from this life as the result of having been kicked by one of his horses. He was survived by his wife, six daughters - Arrena Latimer, Sarah Latimer, Hattie Lines, Minnie Boan, Jennie Boan and Emma Grant and three sons - Todd, James and Philip, and their spouses and children.
