A BIOGRAPHY OF MARY "POLLY" BUCHANAN BURNS (1786-1877), by Laurence Overmire (3G Grandson), genealogist and family historian, updated June 2018:
The daughter of Walter Buchanan and Margaret Slemmons, Mary "Polly" was born in Pennsylvania on Jan. 8, 1786. At the age of 32, she married David Burns on Nov. 27, 1818, in what is now Ashland County, Ohio. They lived on a farm in Clear Creek Township and raised five children: John, Denny, William C., James and Frances Maria "Fanny".
Mary died Feb. 24, 1877 at the age of 91 and is buried in Savannah Cemetery. She shares one face of the Burns family gravestone with her son Denny (d. 1859).
Family tradition says her Buchanan family was related to President James Buchanan.
