Funeral services for Winona Mitchell were 10 a.m., July 29, at St. Martin of Tours Episcopal Church in Pryor. Ivan Williams officiated and burial followed in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Key Funeral Home of Pryor.

Mitchell was born Aug. 21, 1917, in Tuscola, Texas, daughter of Carl and Celia Frances Graham. She was the youngest of five children, and the great niece of W.A. Graham of Pryor. She married Charles "Alec" Mitchell on Sept. 7, 1936, and moved to Pryor where she raised her family.

During the war, she returned to Texas where she began her career teaching as a subsitute and continued her education, eventually receiving a master's degree and becoming a special education teacher in Pryor Schools. She retired from a long teaching career and became a proud member of Kappa Kappa Iota, a retired teachers' sorority. She was a member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church.

Mitchell was a beloved mother and grandmother survived by one son, Charles Denton Mitchell, Pryor; two daughters, Linda Balizer, Albuquerque, N.M., Nancy Godsey, Tulsa; five granddaughters, Kallen Godsey, Nicole Standingwater, Cheta Balizer, Kael Balizer Hendon and Michelle Foreman; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by many friends and loved ones including her husband and great-granddaughter Tacie Davidson.

She will always be remembered and thought of warmly for her wonderfully creative nature, charming sense of humor, her indomitable spirit, and her amazing optimistic outlook on life. She was happiest when the table was abundantly full and her house was filled with those she loved. She lived with such grace and dignity even through times of hardship, that she became an inspiration and model to all of her family. She will be loved and cherished always and never forgotten for the love she shared with
