Funeral Services For Local Pioneer Held Wednesday
Last Rites for Mrs. Maude Rachel Little, a pioneer resident of the Carnegie community, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Alfalfa Baptist church with Rev. A.F. Heusel, retired minister, officiating. Rev. Jesse Haney, Eakly Methodist pastor, assisted. Burial was in the Alfalfa cemetery.
Mrs. Little, blind for the past seven years and a patient in the Carnegie hospital since October, 1955, died Monday. She had been failing in health for the past month but continued to be cheerful to those who waited on her.
Maude Rachel Bond was born October 22, 1878, at Albany, Mo. She came with her parents to Oklahoma while still quite young, settling near El Reno. She was married to Walter Ward Little in 1899 and in 1905 they moved to the community near Eakly. Three sons and one daughter were born to them. One son, Orville, died in 1928. Her husband preceded her in death in 1943.
Survivors include: two sons, R.J. and Leo Little and the daughter, Mrs. Ruby Taylor, all of the Carnegie community; two sisters, Mrs. Lola Shupe, Ashland, Kansas, and Mrs. Cordia Little, Carnegie; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Shupe of Ashland, Mrs. E.L. Hollingsworth and family of Chillicothe, Ill., and Jackie Little and family of Wichita, were here for the services.
