Emilie was born June 16, 1852 in New Orleans, Jefferson Co, Louisiana to Jacob Herrgen and wife Margaretha (Vogel). Emilie married David Peat Lister in Feb 1870 in Minnesota, although she was about to deliver her baby daughter, Minnie. Apparently Emilie's parents were friends of David Lister and also of George and Mary Johnson; the men were hunters and trappers. The Johnsons adopted baby Minnie, shown on the 1870 census as a 2 month old in their family. Emilie and David Lister adopted two sons: David J. Lister and Forrest M. Lister, and also had their own son: Andrew Cuddah Lister. One of the adopted sons, David, died from an accidental gunshot wound as he was hunting in 1901; the other adopted son'S whereabouts, Forrest's, were not known after about 1917 except he was named in Emilie's WILL; also named was her daughter, Mrs. Minnie Newton. Andrew C. Lister inherited his father's business after Emilie died in 1918 and David P. Lister died in 1922; David P. Lister's WILL stated that one son survived him.
