Karen Ellen Anderson Barth was born Oct. 21, 1943, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Lewiston, to Herbert L. and Rose T. Anderson of Clarkston. She became the baby sister to Jeanette M. and Laura Rose Anderson. One blond, one brunette, and Karen with reddish locks.

She grew up in what was at the time semi-rural Clarkston on south Eighth Street with farm animals, an orchard and strawberry fields across the street. At age 5, she started first grade at Holy Family Grade School, ninth grade at Lincoln Junior High, then graduated from Clarkston High School in 1961.

Three days after graduation, she started her office work destiny as a secretary to the lumber sales manager at Potlatch Forests Inc. Later, she worked in Sanger and Fresno, Calif., as a bookkeeper and then as a credit bureau supervisor until returning to Lewiston and going to work for Pacific Northwest Bell as a residential and business service representative.

She was married in 1961 to David Shinn. After seven years, they divorced. In 1973, she married Charles Barth. He adopted both of her children from the previous marriage.

Painting mountain and country scenes on canvas, writing poetry, fishing for trout, growing tomatoes, camping and stoking the fire were her passions. Hiking and exploring were always part of the scene.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Herbert and Rose Anderson; her son, Thad Barth; her sister, Jeanette Ellis; and her brother-in law, Louis Ellis.

Survivors deleted from this obituary according to Find A Grave policy.

Because she and her young son died of cancer, instead of flowers, if you want, make a donation to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
