William Green Berry Beckham was born in Wayne Co, TN and was know far and wide for raizing thoroughbred horses and Tennessee Mules. At the age of 12 years old he was hired by Hubbard Dare in Wayne Co, TN to help Mr Dare bring some Tennessee mules to Jefferson Co, IL. He was married 1st on 6 Nov 1859 in Wayne Co, TN to Lucinda Emeline Howard. What happened to her is unknown, but what we do know was that he was married when he enlisted in the Union Army on 6 Dec 1861. He was enlisted in Company B, 60th Illinois Volunteer Infantry, 14th Corps, USA in Union, Illinois by Captain Watson for a period of 3 years and was mustered into service on 14 Feb 1862 in Anna, IL by Captain Watson. He was mustered out on 28 Mar 1865 in Springfield, IL by Captain Hall. His records indicated that he reenlisted as a Veteran. He fought in the battle of Shiloh, TN which was located only a couple of miles from his family farm, as well as many other battles.
