Green Berry Beckham was born in 1814 in Orange Co, NC and moved to Wayne Co, TN with his parents and siblings sometime around 1820 when a small boy. There he was married to Rebecca Weatherford, daughter of William Weatherford (the Creek Indian) and Margaret Ann Polk. He owned a farm at Flat Gap Creek which is located at the Northern End of "Beckham Hollow". When the Civil War destroyed his farm in 1863, he moved his wife and all of his children except William Green Berry Beckham to Jefferson Co, IL. Unknown to him his eldest son William Green Berry Beckham who was living in Illinois had joined the U.S. Army in an attempt to get back south to check on his family. Green Berry Beckham traveled north to Jefferson Co, IL in search of his son. It wasn't until the end of the Civil War that William Green Berry Beckham discovered his family living in Jefferson Co, IL. During the battle of Shiloh which is not from from Flat Gap Creek, William Green Berry Beckham visited his family farm only to find that the farm had been burned down and his family was gone.
