Dexter A. Shotts, 83, died Thursday, Feb. 29, 1996, at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings. He was born Sept. 21, 1912, in Manhattan, Kan., the son of Joe and Olive Jenkins Shotts, and moved to Wyoming when he was 4. Mr. Shotts graduated from Greybull High School in 1931 and moved to Cody in 1935, living on the South Fork until 1994. He married Sarah Barnhart in Billings on april 29, 1946, and the couple was looking forward to celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Mr. Shotts was a 17-year member of the Rural Volunteer Fire Department and member of Wyoming Fiddler's District # 2. He enjoyed horseback riding.

He is survived by his wife Sarah of Cody, children Alan, Paul and Robert of Cody, David of Tucson, Ariz., and Mary Marchant of Emblem, five grandchildren, sister Marie McIntosh of Wasilla, Alaska, and many friends. Funeral services will be 2 p. m. Tuesday at Ballard Funeral Home with interment following in Riverside Cemetery.

The family moved to Wyoming, where he graduated from Greybull High School in 1931. He moved to Cody in 1935. He married Sarah Barnhart in Billings on April 29, 1946. He was a member of the Rural Volunteer Fire Department and Wyoming Fiddler's District NO. 2. He enjoyed horseback riding.

Survivors include his wife of Cody; children, Alan, Paul and Robert Shotts, all of Cody, David Shotts of Tucson, Ariz., and Mary Merchant of Emblem, Wyo.; sister, Marie McIntosh of Wasilla, Alaska; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
