Grandma Losey, 93, Succumbed Here Thursday
Had Resided in This Village for the Past Sixty Years
Mrs. Fannie Losey, age 93, one of our oldest citizens and resident of this village the past 60 years, passed away in her sleep early last Thursday morning at the home of her daughter Mrs. Frank Schwartz with whom she had resided since the death of her husband, Robert Losey, 21 years ago. Grandma Losey, in remarkable physical and mental health for her age, was up and about until two weeks ago when she developed a cold. Although pneumonia didn't develop, the cold was more than her system would stand. Miss Fannie Plonty, daughter of Benjamin and Jennie Gray Plonty, was born April 12, 1850, in Cennia Mills, St. Lawrence County, New York. There she grew to womanhood and on Apr 21, 1868, was united in marriage to Robert Losey of Quebec, Canada. In 1871, when they had two small children, Mrs. George Hopp and Joe Losey of Preston, they came west, settling at Spring Valley. They resided there and at other places in this county until 1883 when they moved to Preston. Grandma Losey, one of a family of 14 children, leaves only one sister, Mrs. Sarah Hendershott, age 85, Spring Valley. A brother, Julius Plonty of Spring Valley, passed away there in 1933 at the age of 93 years. Longevity was everywhere in evidence in her family. Her father attained the age of 95 years, and her mother 93 years. Besides her sister, she leaves to mourn her departure six of her eleven children: Jennie, Mrs. George Hopp of Preston, who is spending the winter in Dubuque; Robert of Hubbard, Oregon who was here visiting his mother when she died and who departed for home on Monday; Joe and John of Preston; Winnie, Mrs. Frank Schwartz, Preston; and Gertrude, Mrs. Chris Chilson, Preston. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren, 3 in the service of their country; and four great great grandchildren. The five children who preceded her in death were George, Michael, Sofrona, Myrtle and Frank. Funeral services were held at 9:00 Monday morning from Preston's Catholic Church, Fr. M. I. Doyle officiating. She was laid to rest in the family lot in the Crown Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Si Westlund, Joe Gartner, John Ryan, George Gartner, Lester Ott and Frank Ford. Those from out of town in attendance at the service were Robert Losey, Hubbard, Ore.; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Anderson, Minneapolis; Mrs. George Sickler, Sherburne, Minn.; Mrs. John Losey, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Losey and Mr. and Mrs. George Losey of Spring Valley; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Losey, Stewartville; Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Pederson and sons of Lanesboro; Mrs. Paul Shaw and Vernon Schwartz of Waterloo, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Art Peterson and children of Fountain; and Mrs. George Hopp and Mrs. Henry Hopp of Dubuque, Iowa.
