About the year 1890, several Rigney and Shelton families formed a wagon train and moved to Texas, settling near Stephenville, in Johnson County. About the year 1897, several of these same families moved to newly opened Oklahoma, again by wagon train. Harrison and Matilda filed on a farm near Cloud Chief, Washita County.
Mrs. Rigney preceded her husband in death. Both were buried at Strickland Cemetery, south of Cordell, OK, but the primitive grave markers long since have been lost. Survivors included two daughters; Sarah Christmas and Lucinda Tidwell; three sons, John, James and William. Two sons, Elijah and Bluford, preceded them in death. Also surviving were several brothers, sisters and grandchildren.
