Leroy was my uncle on my fathers side. He was to me a real
cowboy. He won many many ribbons with his horses, mainly Dick. When he could no longer ride horses, he boarded them for people on his farm. Sometimes he had to take people to court because they wouldn't take care of them when they were ill or dying. He paid out of his own pocket for their meds and treated and took care of them himself.
When I was a youngster, he and aunt Rose lived next door, he had a barn in the back where he kept Dick and Granny. I would often watch him file horses hooves and reshoe them. I even got to watch him train Dick to take a bow, count, and dance. One year we tried to help him and aunt Rose braid their manes and tails for a parade. They were all decked out in the best gear and were so awesome to see. He even painted a wagon black and gold that they would pull. And of course uncle Leroy was decked out too.
I will really miss him dearly. He was always someone I could count on if something happened. Rest In Sweet Peace Uncle Leroy.
