In the 1850 census, the family was in East Machias, Christopher was age 23 and a salor and his father John was age 40 and a ships carpenter. Siblings were John age 10 and Sarah age 13. There was also another Christopher Bancroft age 8 mos in the household and a Marshall family.
Christopher married Harriet E. Dennison Oct 19, 1854 in Boston, father's name given as John. Both he and the bride were age 25, both from Machias Maine. It was his second and her first marriage.
Children were Eliza, Isadora H., John D., Urban, Charles S. and perhaps others.
In the 1860 census in East Machias Christopher was a master mariner age 33, Harriet E. was also 33 and isadora (female) was age 5 and son John was 10 mos. Next door was his brother John and family. By 1870 they had added sons Urban and Sumner to the family. In 1880, Christopher was 53, Harriet 53, Urban 18 and Sumner 15.
