Married at the E. Street Congregational Church in South Boston on November 9, 1870 by the Rev. Edward A. Rand.

"MRS MARY L COLE, 66, SUCCUMBS IN BOSTON. Special Dispatch to the Globe. HINGHAM, Oct 20-Word was received here today of the death at the Hotel Carlton, Boston, of Mrs Mary L. (Ball) Cole, at the age of 66 years.
Mrs Cole was the mother of three distinguished sons, Brig Gen Charles H. Cole, 52 Infantry, 26th Division, now in France, and ex-adjutant of the Massachusetts National Guard; George A. Cole, business man of Hingham and Boston, and the late Maj Edward Ball Cole of the United States Marine Corps, who died of wounds last June while leading his men, and who later received the Distinguished Service Cross. Five grandchildren also survive her.
Mrs Cole was born in Portsmouth, N H, one of two children of Mr and Mrs Edward Ball. While quite young the family moved to South Boston, and a short time later to Columbus av, Boston. In 1870 she married Charles Henry Cole and in 1890 came to live in Hingham. Mr. Cole died in 1906.
The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at the home of her son, George A. Cole, Lincoln st and Burditt av, Hingham." – The Boston Daily Globe, October 20, 1918.

HINGHAM, Oct 23─The funeral of Mrs Mary L. Ball Cole, widow of Charles H. Cole, was held today at the home of her son, George A. Cole, Lincoln st and Burditt av. Services were conducted by Rev Charles E. Park of the First Unitarian Church of Boston. Harold Tripp, tenor, of Boston, sang. Interment was in Hingham Cemetery.
Mrs Cole was the mother of Brig Gen Charles H. Cole, commander of the 52d Brigade of the 26th Division, now in France, and ex-Adjutant General of the Massachusetts National Guard; George A. Cole, business man of Boston and Hingham; and the late Maj Edward Ball Cole, Marine Corps, who died last June of wounds received in action and who was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross.” – The Boston Daily Globe, October 24, 1918
