Choctaw resident Karen Lackey Austin, 51, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2008, in Midwest City.
She was born Jan. 4, 1957, Ellinwood, Kan, to Junior Lee and Francis Leora (Bruno) Lackey. She was reared in Tecumseh and had been longtime resident of the Tecumseh-Shawnee area. She was a 1975 graduate of Tecumseh High School. A homemaker most of her life, she also worked in housekeeping for various motels. Karen enjoyed shopping and spending time with family. She also enjoyed gardening flowers and trees.
She was preceded in death by her father and her grandparents. Survivors include her mother, Frances Lackey of Tecumseh; fiancé, Eddie Cowen of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and James Lightner of Shawnee, Carrie and Marcel Knox of Choctaw, Mary and Benny Creech of McLoud, Charli Miller of McLoud; son, James Lewis of Choctaw; grandchildren, Chris, Seora and Merritt Lightner, Annie, Katelyn, Benny Jr. and Dakota Creech, Aiden Miller; brothers, Dale, Steve, Dave and Roger Lackey.
Graveside service will be 2 pm Thursday at Fairview Cemetery in Harjo with Danny Halterman officiating.
