Lillian Pierce Van Cossaboon, widow of Rev. Nicholas Van Cossaboon, was born in Elmer, Gloucester County, New Jersey, on October 29, 1883. Her father, a veteran of the Civil War, lived in Southern New Jersey. The Reverend Mr. Cossaboon's first pastorate was in Woodhull, Steuben County, New York, to which he was appointed in 1915. He retired in 1949 after having served Silver Springs, New York Church for eight years. The family cottage at Silver Lake was home for Mrs. Van Cossaboon until the fall of 1957. She then went to live with her daughter Virginia in Buffalo, spending summers at Silver Lake. Mrs. Van Cossaboon is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Pearl C. Dull of Falls Church, Virginia, Mrs. Virginia Johnson of Buffalo, New York and Miss Ruth E. Van Cossaboon of San Antonio, Texas. Another daughter, Mrs. Helen C. Woods of Lockport, New York, departed this life on July 18, 1966, while visiting at Silver Lake. Two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren live in the Arlington, Virginia area while her grandson Nicholas T. Woods, his wife and two children, live in Denver, Colorado.
Mrs. Van Cossaboon suffered a fatal stroke on August 23, 1968, and passed away in the State Hospital at Buffalo, New York. Funeral services were conducted at the Link-Fox Funeral Home in Buffalo by her pastor, Rev. Herbert Harrison on August 27, 1968. Interment was in the family plot at Acacia Park Cemetery.
Music was her daily communion and solace during the many days of ill health.
