He was a son of Sheldon Atwell and Catherine Atwell, formerly Miss Dickinson, of Poughkeepsie. Born about sixty-two years ago, he settled upon a farm adjoining that of his father's, and while at that time it was crude and rough, the years of labor which he has bestowed upon it has transformed it into one of the finest and most productive farms in the town of Fallsburgh. Mr. Atwell was noted, wherever known, for his sterling pure character, his honesty, justice and pure mode of life, and goes to his reward without an enemy in the world, mourned and loved by the whole community.
He was an uncle of H. J. Atwell, of this city.
