Winnie was the third child and only daughter of Maudie Iola Williams (1877-1969) and Benjamin Jefferson Jones (1870-1948).

She married LeRoy Elton (1897-1966) on 9 July 1919 in Atoka, Atoka County, Oklahoma.

Winnie and LeRoy lived in Quanah and Wichita Falls from the mid 1920s.

They ran the Queen and the Senate restaurants in downtown Wichita Falls during WW II.
