Charles Champagne was born on 22 May 1844, in Thibodaux, Lafourche Parish, Louisiana. He was the son of Joseph Florestan Champagne (1819 LA - 1896 Lafourche Parish, LA) and Adele Marie Bergeron (1819 LA - 1915 Lafourche Parish, LA). He married Marie Louise Champagne on 7 September 1865, in Houma, Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana. She was born in 1845 in Louisiana, the daughter of Eugene Champagne, Jr and Marie Helene Chauvin. Charles and Mary were the parents of eleven children. Charles lived in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana in 1860 and Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana in 1880. He died on 2 June 1900, in Theriot, Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, at the age of 56, and was buried in Theriot, Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana.


•Note:

Charles died of "lung pleurisy" (T.B.) on June 2, 1900 and was buried in St. Eloi Cemetery at Bayou Dularge. His gravestone is in that cemetery, and is marked with the inscription "CO. D., 13th LA. INFANTRY CSA"
