James Oscar Estes (4 March 1906-26 May 1983), a son of Joseph Ziffanard "Ziff" Estes (3 April 1881-3 February 1955) and Frankie Johnson (21 September 1886-1 June 1974), married Jessie Bell Adams (8 July 1912-30 November 1991) on 20 November 1927 in Lee County, Mississippi. James Oscar and Jessie Bell Adams Estes had three children: James Holder "Pete" Estes (5 April 1929-17 May 2003) married Mary Linda Ivy (6 May 1928-11 October 2006) on 29 January 1949 in Monroe County, Mississippi, and later lived in Jacksonville, Florida; Helen Francis Estes married Martis Donald "Buddy" Ramage on 1 October 1954 in Lee County, Mississippi; and Bobby Gene Estes married Janie Layzatte Maynard.

James Oscar Estes, 77, died Thursday after an extended illness. He was born in Alabama, had lived most of his life in Nettleton, was a painting contractor and a member of the Nettleton Pentecostal Church. Services were held at the Nettleton Pentecostal Church with the Rev. G. H. Hill officiating. Burial was in the Lee Memorial Park. McGrath-Rasberry Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jessie Adams Estes of Nettleton; two sons, Bobby Estes of Nettleton and Pete Estes of Jacksonville, Florida; a daughter, Mrs. Helen Ramage of Verona; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Morgan and Mrs. Nola Smith, both of Nettleton; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Phil Johnson, Kirby Johnson, Dalton Smith, Marlin Smith, Eugene Morgan, Wayne Morgan, Carlos Sullivan, and Sammy Sullivan.

The body lay in state at Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Nettleton until time for services.
