Aged 75yRhoda Bunch was born 4 Mar 1812 in Warren County, KY. She is the daughter of Simeon Bunch and Celia (Boon) Bunch. Land data showed the family owned property along Drake's Creek, near Bowling Green.

She at some point moved to Indiana's Warrick County, probably with her grandparents, Jesse Boon and Keziah Biven Boon. Her uncle, Col. Ratliff Boon, was governor of Indiana from 1822-24 and also served several terms in the U.S. House of Representatives.

In Warrick County, IN, Rhoda married J.G. (Gurley) Baker, and they had three children, sons John J. and Hiram T., and a daughter, Anne, who married Mr. James A. Hammond.

The family moved to the Ottumwa area in 1844 and secured land through a land grant. They moved into the city of Ottumwa in 1856 so their children could go to school in town.
