He is survived by his wife of 59 years Ruth (Youngsma) Avedisian of Waterford, CT; a daughter June A. and her husband Roger Hagerty of Gales Ferry, Ct; two grandchildren Drew Hagerty and his wife Karen of Waterford, CT and Keir Hagerty of Mystic, CT; two great-grandsons Orrie and Caleb Hagerty: a brother Michael Avedisian of Whitinsville; and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by 5 siblings Mary Talanian, Lucy Asadoorian, and William, James and Harry Avedisian. Born in Northbridge on July 27, 1919 he was the son of the late Sarkis and Tarvis (Deranian) Avedisian and lived in Waterford, CT for the past 2 years, previously living in Whitinsville.
Mr. Avedisian worked several years as a machinist at the former Whitin Machine Works and Millbury Engineering and for 20 years at General Electric Telechron in Ashland before his retirement in 1984. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII, battling for months on foot from Sicily to Southern France. He received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon with a Bronze Service Arrowhead, a Bronze Star Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Whitinsville and the Solomon's Temple Masonic Lodge A.F & A.M. of Uxbridge. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed flying his plane in his younger years and spending time with his family.
His funeral service will be held on at Mon. July 14 at 10:30 a.m., in Jackman Funeral Home, 12 Spring St., Whitinsville. Burial will be private at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA. A calling hour at the funeral home will be held Mon. July 14 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Blackstone Valley United Methodist Church, 61 Linwood Avenue, Whitinsville, MA 01588
