MARTIN.

Jesse Martin, an old resident of near Colchester, died at his home four miles northwest of that place, at 8:30 Monday night of old age and general debility. Funeral at the Argyle church, conducted by the Rev. H. F. Jones; interment in Mt. Auburn cemetery, Colchester. His age was 83 years, 11 months and 13 days.

Deceased was born in Greene county, Kentucky, and came to this state over 50 years ago, locating in Tennessee township. His wife's maiden name was Pauline Kirk, she dying Feb. 10 of this year. He had been sick for the past twelve years and since the death of his wife has been entirely helpless. For years he has been a member of the Methodist church at Friendship.Jesse's father settled in present-day Tennessee Township. In 1855 Jesse bought 160 acres, the S. E. 1/4 of Section 26 in the township that would be named Rock Creek Township in 1856, and re-named Hire Township in 1857.
