SHERMAN - Services for Dorothy Clift McElroy, 82, of Sherman who died Wednesday, July 2, 2008, will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 5 at Dannel Funeral Home. Pastor Roger Sanders, Presbyterian Lay Pastor will officiate. Graveside services will be held at noon in Waxahachie at the Waxahachie City Cemetery, under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home.
Dorothy was born in Waxahachie on Feb. 24, 1926, to Oliver and Nelle Owen Clift. She was educated in the public schools of Waxahachie, graduating in 1944. She went on to attend and graduate from Texas Tech University in Lubbock. On April 25, 1948, she married Edgar "Bodie" McElroy, and they enjoyed 48 years together before his death on Feb. 1, 1997.
Preceded by her parents and husband, Dorothy is survived by two sons, Dr. Ed McElroy and wife Jan of El Paso and Oliver McElroy of McKinney; a sister, Gretchen Sammons Lewis of Waxahachie; four grandchildren, Oliver McElroy Jr., Carter McElroy, Mark McElroy and Miles McElroy; niece Dr. Barbara Murphey and nephews Clift Sammons and Paul Sammons.
Visitation will be held from 5 -6:30 p.m. on Friday, July 4, 2008.
Memorials may be made to the Child & Family Guidance Center of Texoma, 804 E. Pecan Road, Sherman, TX 75090.
