Mary Henrietta Hill was married to Isaac Sherman Arnold on December 28, 1892, at Douglas County, Illinois. Mary, nicknamed Minnie, and Sherman, settled in the vicinity of North Liberty, Iowa, which is in Penn Township of Johnson County. In about 1893, they had their first child, named Mary, but baby Mary did not survive. In 1896, Minnie had her second child, an infant son, who also did not survive. These 2 children are buried in Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty. In 1899, Sherman and Minnie adopted a girl named Grace.

Not long after the turn of the century, Sherman and Minnie moved to Oklahoma, where Minnie's parents lived in Kremlin, Garfield County. Minnie died of unknown causes on July 23, 1908. Sherman then married Minnie's older sister, Margaret, in 1909. Margaret was age 48 and had remained single up to that time.
