Well Known Woman, Widow of Pioneer Merchant Passes Thursday
TALMAGE —(Special to The News-Press) — Mrs Caroline C. Damme, 79, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs Charles E. Wood, Thursday at 1:30 a. m. from a heart aliment. Born in Franklin county. Mo., Aug. 17, 1864, the daughter of Mr and Mrs John H. Holtgrewe, she married J. H. Damme at the home of her parents, Oct. 16, 1884. Mr Damme had established a general merchandise business in Talmage the year before, and brought his bride here immediately after their marriage.
Survivors are a daughter and three sons, Mrs Emma Wood and Theodore P. Damme, Talmage: Henry H. Damme, McAllen, Tex, and Major William H. Damme, with the U. S. Signal Corps, who has just arrived in the states from England. Three children preceded her In death. Grandchildren surviving are Carolyn Ann, Mary Claire and Lucille Emma Damme. Mr. Damme died April 3, 1940.
Mrs Damme was a charter member of Zion Evangelical church, Talmage, and of the Aid Society. The body will lie In state at Tonsing & Pearson funeral home. Funeral arrangements await word from Major Damme whose present whereabouts are not known to the family.
