Mrs. Virgie Chaney, wife of Mr. Fred Chaney, died at her home four miles east of Monroe, Monday morning at three o'clock. She had influenza and pneumonia of which she had been a great sufferer for a week. She bore her sufferings bravely and fought to the very last to get well. She said to some one at her bedside just an hour before she died that she thought she was going to get better. Mrs. Chaney was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Helms and hers being the first death in a family of eleven children makes it so hard for her parents. She was one of the best women the writer has ever known. Having joined the Baptist church when just a girl she has lived up to the highest standard ever since. She never spoke a harsh word to any one, and always had a smile on her face. A more devoted and affectionate daughter, sister, wife and mother is never seen. She was a kind and thoughtful neighbor always ready and willing to help wherever she could do the slightest good. She will be greatly missed in her church and community. Besides being survived by her husband, father, mother and two brothers and sister she leaves two children, little Morris and Kathleen, who will hardly remember their mother's love. She also leaves an aged father-in-law, Mr. J. E. Chaney who has often said that she was just like a daughter to him. We commend the sorrowing relatives to look to Jesus for comfort in their grief, for he knows what is best even in one so young. She was only about twenty-five years old and leaven will seem sweeter by her having gone before. Mrs. Chaney was married to Mr. Fred Chaney nearly seven years. The funeral services were held at the home Monday at two o'clock by Rev. E. C. Snyder and the remains were laid to rest in the Williams cemetery near there. The floral offerings were beautiful, showing that she was highly esteemed by all who knew her.
