I am currently transcribing the death notices published in The Osceola Times (Osceola, Mississippi, AR) newspaper. I came across the following concerning John O. Blackwood and since you have added information to his memorial I thought perhaps you might want to include some of these details. Eventually the death notices will be published by the Genealogical Society of Craighead County, Arkansas.

Saturday, 12 January 1889, page 4.
Died—Representative, John O. Blackwood, after a protracted illness passed away Thursday morning at 6:30 o’clock. For several days he was conscious that dissolution was approaching, and prepared for the inevitable. He died at peace with the world, and with a bright hope of immortality in the next. He leaves a large family to mourn his loss.
At the September election Col. Blackwood was elected representative of Mississippi County. His death leaves his seat vacant in the Lower House which convenes next Monday. He was buried by the Masonic fraternity of Osceola, yesterday morning with all the honors of that Institution.

Saturday, 19 January 1889, page 1.
The death of Representative Blackwood of Mississippi county was announced in the house yesterday. He died at Osceola last Thursday. He was a most estimable gentlemen, a lawyer by profession and a prominent Democrat in his locality. In the religious column of the roster of the house he announced as his religion the “Golden Rule.” That is hope that practice here may not be a disappointment in the life beyond, and that it may admit him to a seat in the Gen. assembly of the first born.— [Little Rock Gazette]

Tribute of Respect.
WHEREAS: this Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, having been called to mourn the death of our brother, John O. Blackwood, who departed this life on the morning of January 10, 1889, in the 45th year of his age, after a long and painful illness, which he endured with heroic fortitude it is therefore
RESOLVED, by Osceola Lodge No. 27, A. F. & A. M., that in the death of Brother John O. Blackwood this Lodge has lost a kindhearted, genial brother and Associates; the community, a citizen of talent, influence and popularity, and they legal profession and able and hard-working member.
RESOLVED: That the patients and meekness of spirit with which brother Blackwood endured the prolong suffering of his last sickness, his constant solitude for the welfare of his family, even when the shadows of death were upon him, and his firm declaration of his confidence in the mercy of God through faith in Christ, affords us all and instructive example of the efficiency of faith and love to sustain and keep us in the hour of death.
RESOLVED: That a copy of this resolution be given the Osceola Times for publication; a copy properly engrossed to be sent to the widow of our deceased Brother, to whom, and the children who now mourn the loss of his father, this Lodge tenders its heartfelt sympathy in this hour of grief and mourning, and we commend them to Him who alone can comfort and ease the pain of their aching hearts.
