Dewey was the son of Ernest and Lottie (Messick) Estes. He married Christine Elizabeth Combs in 1941 and they had one son: Howard Lee.

STONY POINT - Dewey Lee Estes 77, of 531 W. Lackey Farm Rd, Stony Point, NC, died Monday, February 9, 1998 at Broughton Hospital, Morganton.
Funeral is 2 p.m. Thursday at Stony Point Baptist Church, Stony Point with Dr. Ken Walters & Rev. Mitch King officiating. Burial in Stony Point Cemetery, Stony Point.
Mr. Estes was born in Iredell County. He retired as a diesel mechanic with Cummun's Carolina of Charlotte, was a member of Stony Point Baptist Church, he did volunteer work for several years at Boys Home in Huntersville, was a blood donor having given 18 gallons. He taught Sunday School for 13 years at Gatlin Juvenile Diagnostic Center.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Combs Estes of Stony Point; son, Howard Estes of Clarkston, GA; grandson, Kevin Estes of Milwaukee, WI; granddaughter, Karren Royal of Kennesaw, GA; great grandson, Michael Royal, Jr. of Kennesaw, GA; sister, Hazel Moose of Stony Point, NC; 4 brothers, Herman Estes of Stony Point, Marvin Estes of Marshall, Ark, Elmer and Homer Estes of Statesville, NC.
