Franklin H. Bush came to Illinois about 1854, with his brother, Henry and they engaged in Cattle dealing and the wholesale meat business. He owned a farm of one hundred and thirty acres adjoining the city.
The Bush family played an important part in Eugene Stevens life, as he was only 3 years old when his father, John W. Stevens died and about 6 years old when his mother, Harriett, married Frank H. Bush, so Frank was the only father Eugene knew.
In 1863, Frank and Harriett purchased a home at 224 N. Hickory St, in Joliet, Illinois. Some of the family lived in the home until the late 1940's, over 80 years. Most of the children lived in and around Joliet all of their lives.
Four children were born to Frank and Harriett

1. Charles Franklin Bush
2. Harriett Bush
3. Arthur W. Bush
4. Lulu Bush

Frank H. Bush died November 10, 1897 and was buried first in Oakwood Cemetery and on Oct. 19, 1909, he was moved to Elmhurst Cemetery and was buried next to his wife, Harriett. He was 68 years old.
