Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer (Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois), Monday, September 21, 1970:
   Joseph A. Agles, 76, 133 S. Brown Ave., died at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday at his home.
   A lifelong resident of Edwardsville, he was a retired U.S. Post Office employee.
   A son of the late Charles and Margaret Murphy Agles, he was born in Edwardsville on May 23, 1894.
   He was married to Mae B. McLean, who survives, on July 23, 1915, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Edwardsville.
   Also surviving are four sons, Vincent J. Agles of Collinsville, Marion J. Agles, Edward C. Agles and William Agles, all of Edwardsville; a daughter, Mrs. James (Ruth) Flagg of Collinsville; a brother, Edward M. Agles of Edwardsville; 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
   One brother preceded him in death.
   Mr. Agles was a 50-year member of Edwardsville Fire Co. No. 1, a 50-year member of the Knights of Columbus of Edwardsville, a member of the Edwardsville Moose Lodge, an inactive member of the Shut-In Club and an honorary member of Edwardsville VFW Post 1299.
   He was a charter member of the Edwardsville Sportsmens Club, a member of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association and served 12 years as a precinct committeeman of Precinct 4 in Edwardsville.
   He was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society of the church.
   Friends may call after 4 p.m. Tuesday at Pletcher Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Boniface Catholic Church with the Rev. William Stanley officiating.
   Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
   The Rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
   Organizations may assemble at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
   Memorials may be made to the cancer or heart fund.
