Son of Nathan Shrewsbury, Jr. and Caroline C. Coleman
John Edward Shrewsbury was born in Brandenburg, Ky., February 12, 1868, and died in Tulsa, Oklahoma, January 7, 1928.

On September 15, 1895, he was married to Miss Martha Pack, at Brandenburg. From there they moved to Indiana, where they lived until 18 years ago, when they came to Oklahoma and settled near Sapulpa. They lived there until about a year ago, when they came to Shidler, where they were living at the time of his death. Brother Shrewsbury was baptised in infancy, and a number of years ago he was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal church at Keifer, Okla., his membership still being held in that church. He has been a member of the Masonic Lodge for 27 years and was also a member of the Consistory at Guthrie. He has been a member of the I. O. O. F. Lodge for more than 25 years. He was a man of fine sterling character, honored and loved by all who knew him. He has been in the employ of the Prairie Oil and Gas company for 17 years and it will be no easy task to find a man to take his place. He was the very soul of honor and honesty. The community has lost a valuable citizen, the family a kind and loving husband and father. Mr. Shrewsbury was fatally injured by a dynamite explosion, January 5, while at work, and was rushed to the hospital where everything that love and money could do was done to save him, but the shock was too much, and at 5:30 Saturday morning, January 7, he slipped peacefully away to be with God.

He leaves to mourn his untimely death, his faithful wife, three sons and two daughters: Lawrence, of Borger, Texas; Raymond, South America; Mrs. Gladys Brace, Pawhuska, and Howard and Agnes, who are still at home in Shidler; besides a host of friends who sympathize with the broken-hearted family in their sad hour of bereavement.

Funeral services were held in the First Methodist church in Sapulpa, Tuesday afternoon, January 10, in the presence of a large congregation of sorrowing friends and relatives. The long procession and the beautiful floral offerings was but a faint expression of the high esteem in which he was held.
The body was laid away in the beautiful South Heights cemetery at Sapulpa to await the Resurrection morning.
May God's richest blessings be upon the bereaved family.
