Rites Monday

Funeral services for Charles W. Applegate, 86, of Elizabethtown route 1 will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Barkes, Inlow and Weaver funeral home by the Rev. Dallas Collier. Burial will be at Garland Brook cemetery.

Persons may call at the funeral home from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and until time of services Monday.

Applegate died Friday at his residence. He had been in ill health and according to Dr. Robert Bush, pathologist, cause of death was due to gunshot wound to the head.

Applegate was born May 7, 1890, in Washington county to the Rev. Scott and Hannah Ellen McCoskey Applegate. May 11, 1911, in Salem, he married the former Carrie E. Eilar who died May 9, 1966.

He was a farmer and a member of the Salem Baptist church and past member of Woodmen's lodge at Joliett.

Survivors include a son, Walter Applegate of Elizabethtown route 1; six daughters, Mrs. Wilson Broaddus of Elizabethtown route 1, Mrs. Verle Richardson of 1519 Chestnut, Mrs. Ed Bohall of Franklin, Mrs. David Weed, Sr., 3809 Camelot, Mrs. Lyle Heitman of 1728 Hawcreek and Wanda Lang of 1524 Lafayette; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by a daughter, three brothers and a sister.
