Roswell enlisted in the 27th Me. Infantry on 9/30/1862 as a private. The book 'A Shower of Stars' by John Pullen was about this regiment. Some of the men extended thier enlistment when asked to. They were awarded the Medal of Honor for doing so. When records were lost and they didn't know which men had extended they awarded medals to the entire regiment. In 1917 a review board revoked all the medals, including those of the men who did extend, because
