Obadiah lived in Oswego County, New York, where he was the gate keeper on a toll road. He also was a minister, like his brothers, Gustavus and Harvey Kimball Hines, who are buried in this cemetery. He died while doing ministerial work in the Snake River area of Idaho and his body was returned to Salem.

Siblings: Adolphus married Margaret (last name unknown), Rev. Gustavus married #1 Lydia Bryant #2 Ann Johnson, Malissa Catherine, James Round married Harriet Celia Weldman, Rev. Joseph Wilkinson, Rev. Harvey Kimbell married #1 Elizabeth Graves #2 Celinda Minverva Gillette.

He eventually came to the Oregon country.
