Jacob was a son of Peter Lanter and his wife, Sarah or Susan Bourne. He was in the American Revolution and received his pension starting on February 5, 1833. He married Mary Virginia "Polly" Webb on December 20, 1785 in Orange County, Virginia. Their children were; Johanna, Wyatt,Benjamin,Archibald,Mary Frances,James,Deliah, Larkin,John Thompson and William. Several of their sons were in the War of 1812, and Wyatt died in the conflict. Sons William and Archibald and their families along with their mother Polly eventually migrated to Greene County, Indiana, and William,his family,and Polly then moved on to Decatur Co., Indiana, where she later died.
