Katharine was born Dec. 20, 1912, in Graham to Robert and Edna Duncan. She attended Amarillo High School, Amarillo College and the University of Texas, receiving her B.A. degree in elementary education. She taught school for several years in Amarillo. She wrote poetry, which was published and received local and state awards. She was a member of Chapter B.P.E.O.
She loved to draw, play the piano and was a generous, supportive, loving person. She was extremely caring and insightful. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was very active in women's circles at the church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy Fairmon Dee; a sister, Lillian Jenkins; a brother, Dr. Frank B. Duncan; and her parents, Dr. and Mrs. R. A. Duncan.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Hughes and husband Wayne of Amarillo; a son, Richard Dee of Amarillo; two grandsons, Kristopher Duncan Hughes and wife Julie of Austin and Robert Allen Dee of Hamilton, New Zealand; two granddaughters, Shannon Dee of Aztec, N.M., and Diana Green of Montisano, Wash.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Civic Amarillo/Amarillo Opera, the Summer Youth Musical, 401 S. Buchanan St., Amarillo Civic Center, Amarillo, TX, 79101; or to the Camino De Paz Montessori School and Farm, P.O. Box 669, Santa Cruz, N.M. 87567
