Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer, Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois, Monday, February 13, 1967:
  William R. Baird, 83, of 415 N. Buchanan St. died Saturday at St. Mary's Hospital at Clayton, Mo.
  Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Walter J. Mehl officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
  A lifelong Edwardsville resident, Mr. Baird was born Oct. 21, 1883 in Pin Oak Township. His parents were the late Samuel T. and Nancy Barnett Baird.
  He was married Aug. 30, 1909 to Martha Close at the First Presbyterian Church by Rev. Safford.
  Besides his wife he is survived by a son, Marvin Baird of Edwardsville; one daughter, Mrs. George (Marjorie) Detchemendy of Pacific, Mo.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Four brothers and a sister are deceased.
  Mr. Baird was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Men's Council.
  Friends may call at Pletcher Funeral home from 7 o'clock tonight until Tuesday noon. Afterward the body will lie in state at the First Presbyterian Church until the service.
