FOUND DEAD IN BED.

Aged Robert Neely Passes Away Wednesdy Morning at Son's Home.

The venerable Robert Neeley, one of the oldest and most respected pioneer settlers of Porter county, was found dead in his bed at the hom of his son, John Neeley, near the glass factory Wednesday, death having taken place at an early hour in the morning. It is believed that the demise was due to heart trouble, from which the deceased had been a sufferer for several years, complicated with old age and general debility.

As has been the custom of Mr. Neeley he retire early Tuesday afternoon, being to all appearances at that time, in his usual health. Wednesday morning he failed to arise at his customary hour and members of the family, going to inquire as to his health, found his lifeless body yet warm, evidencing that the spark of life had only recently departed. It is believed that the aged man suffered an attack of heart trouble early in the morning and died within a few minutes.

Robert Neeley was born in Kishoka, Quillis Valley, Pa., March 1, 1822, thus at the time of his death he was 86 years old, lacking a few days. He was the son of Robert and Hannah Neeley. In 1850 he came to Porter county from Tiffin, Ohio, after an eight year residence in that locality and settled in Liberty township, where he remained by a short time, when he proceeded west into Missouri where he resided for four years, returning to Liberty township about 1854. He was married to Miss Narces Zane in 1855, fifty-three years ago, to which union two children were born, John Neeley, who survives his father, and Mrs. Mary Jane Jones, who died nineteen years ago. Mr. Neeley continued to reside in Liberty township until three years ago, when he took up his residence with his son in Chesterton. Mrs. Neeley preceded her husband to the grave forty-nine years, she having died three years after her marriage. Besides the one son the deceased is survived by two brothers, Ambrose and William Neeley of White county, Ill., and one sister, Mrs. Hanna Jane Falls of Fostoria, Ohio. The funeral has not been definitely settled as yet, but will probably take place Saturday or Sunday from the home of John Neeley. The burial will take place at Kimball cemetery, southwest of Chesterton.
